On Tuesday, 2nd June, a grenade attack at a private hospital in Punjab‘s Gurdaspur district triggered panic in the area after the explosion damaged parts of the building. The blast shattered windowpanes and damaged the glass door of the emergency ward, though fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
According to police officials, the attack took place at Multani Hospital in Kalanaur town. Around 2:30 pm, Kalanaur Police Station received a report of a loud explosion near the hospital, which is close to the local bus stand.
Punjab Police launched an immediate investigation and, within a few hours, arrested a suspect believed to be involved in the attack. Officials said the accused has links to a foreign-based handler.

Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the case was solved quickly through a joint operation by Gurdaspur Police and the Counter-Intelligence Wing.
“Gurdaspur Police and the Counter Intelligence Wing jointly solved the grenade attack case at Kalanaur, Gurdaspur, within six hours of the incident,” Yadav wrote on X.
He added that the main accused responsible for carrying out the attack had been arrested based on technical and human intelligence inputs. Preliminary investigation has indicated the involvement of a foreign-based handler.
“Further investigation is underway, and both forward and backward linkages are being thoroughly examined to identify and dismantle the entire network behind the attack,” the DGP said.
Police teams and forensic experts inspected the hospital premises after the blast. During the investigation, officials found broken glass pieces scattered around the site. CCTV footage from the area reportedly showed a suspicious man standing near the hospital before the explosion.
Several local shopkeepers said they heard a loud blast from a considerable distance away, sparking fear among residents and market-area shoppers.
Reacting to the incident, Gurdaspur MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa described the attack as a serious matter and demanded a detailed investigation.
“The news of an explosion in the emergency ward of a private hospital in Kalanaur is extremely worrying and serious,” he said. “If reports of a grenade attack are correct, it raises serious questions about the security of places connected with people’s lives.”
