On Friday (10th July), a man identified as Prabal Pratap abused the Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant with choicest of expletives during a hearing before the apex court.
Pratap, the petitioner in the case, appeared in person wearing a black robe. The matter was being heard by a 2-Judge Bench of Justices KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe.
His writ petition was earlier dismissed by the Allahabad High Court. A frustrated Prabal Pratap addressed the Bench, saying, “Mr. judicial servant, I order you to order the registration of FIR against ACP Vikas Nagar, Lucknow.”
“You are ordering me? You are ordering us?” Justice Vishwanathan intervened. Soon after, the petitioner had an elaborate meltdown in the court. He abused the CJI and threw papers in the air.
He was overpowered and escorted out of the courtroom by the security personnel.
The Supreme Court Bench decided not to take any adverse action against the petitioner. It said, “considering the condition of the petitioner above-named, and does not propose to take any action against him. As far as the merit of this case is concerned, we have perused the records, we find no good ground to interfere with the impugned judgment/order(s).”
The court thereafter proceeded with the listed cases
