On Saturday, 25th July, the Centre announced that it had accepted the key demands raised by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), bringing an end to the ongoing protest. The announcement came after a joint meeting between Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh and CJP’s Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das.

The development comes after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tendered his resignation earlier today, fulfilling the main demand of the protesters. The government also in principle agreed to other demands of CJP, including withdrawal of cases filed against protesters, and compensation to the students who committed suicide due to the cancellation of NEET-UG after the paper leak.
Addressing a joint press conference, Union Minister JP Nadda said the discussions were detailed and covered all the issues raised by the protesters. “The delegation gave us a written draft with four points related to the ongoing cases. We also discussed their other demands, including no retaliatory action, compensation for the affected families, and consideration of their five-point charter,” he said.
Nadda said the government would provide copies of all FIRs filed in connection with the protest and assured that no further action would be taken against the protesters. On compensation, he added, “The government also shares the pain of the affected families. Compensation will be given as per the rules, and the maximum possible help will be provided.”
The CJP also submitted a 5-point charter regarding reform in the education sector, and Minister Nadda said that govt will give it due consideration. He said, “The five-point charter is related to reforms in education examinations. Regarding it, we have to say that we will think deeply about your charter for reforms in education examinations and after talking to your delegation, we will try to do whatever we can.”
Adding that govt has accepted all the demands of CJP, he said, “So these were their demands. I think the government has sympathetically considered all the demands they had made and has also accepted them.”
CJP announces end of agitation
After the minister announced that all the demands have been accepted, CJP Chief Spokesperson Saurav Das and National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka announced that the party was withdrawing the agitation. Das said, “Cockroach Janta Party declares that we withdraw the agitation in good faith, with the understanding that the agreed-upon terms will be executed within the agreed-upon timelines.” They also appealed to the protesters at Jantar Mantar to end the protest and leave the site peacefully.

Das said the Centre had also agreed to withdraw FIRs registered against protesters in Delhi as well as BJP-ruled and BJP-allied states. According to him, the government has assured that copies of the FIRs, around 15 to 20 in Delhi, will be shared within three to four days, while a written guarantee covering the agreed points is expected by Tuesday.
CJP National Spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka urged protesters to return home peacefully, saying all of the party’s demands had been accepted and that future decisions would be announced later. He said, “All our demands have been accepted, so we request the protesters to withdraw immediately and return home peacefully. We will inform you of our future strategy or any other issues. But we request the protesters to withdraw immediately.”
While the protest has ended, CJP will pursue the implementation of its five-point demand charter about broader educational reforms and exam reforms. Ranka said that they will have another meeting with the govt next month over the matter. He said, “We also placed a five-point demand charter before the government, which talked about broader educational reforms and exam reforms. We will meet the government again in about four weeks regarding that demand charter so that we can work together on broader reforms.”
Union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh held three rounds of meetings with the CJP delegation, and the breakthrough came after the third meeting today. CJP made three main demands during these meetings: Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation, withdrawal of all legal cases filed against protesters and organisers, and compensation of ₹1 crore for the families who lost their loved ones after the NEET-UG was cancelled.
After yesterday’s meeting, JP Nadda had said that the government has agreed to the two demands, and that the demand for the resignation of the education minister will be discussed with the PM. With Pradhan’s resignation today, all demands were fulfilled, leading to the withdrawal of the protest.
