A shocking incident took place at a private college in Bengaluru on 25th July, where an assistant professor was attacked with a knife by her own father inside the campus. The woman, identified as Lakshmi Durga, suffered serious injuries and is currently undergoing treatment. Police have arrested the accused and started a detailed investigation.
According to police, the incident took place at around 3:00 pm. Lakshmi Durga was inside the Head of Department’s chamber when her father, Nagendra, reached the college and told the staff that he wanted to meet her. Believing it to be a normal family visit, the staff allowed him inside the room.
Police said that soon after entering the chamber, Nagendra took out a knife and attacked his daughter. She was stabbed several times in the abdomen, chest and neck. After the attack, he left the college premises. The injured professor was rushed for medical treatment, where she continues to receive care.
Family dispute behind the attack
The investigation has found that the incident was linked to an ongoing family dispute. Nagendra, who works as a cab driver, had been searching for a suitable groom for his daughter. Police said that after a prospective groom’s family agreed to the marriage proposal, he demanded ₹40 lakh from them, saying he had spent a large amount on his daughter’s education and career.
Police also said Nagendra wanted Lakshmi Durga’s monthly salary to be handed over to him. However, both Lakshmi Durga and her mother opposed these demands, which led to repeated arguments and growing tension within the family.
Police action
After the attack, a case was registered at the local police station, and Nagendra was taken into custody. Police are continuing the investigation to gather more details about the incident and the circumstances that led to the attack.
The incident has raised serious concerns about family-related violence and the safety of educational institutions, where such acts are rarely expected to occur.
