On Friday, September 25, two young women who had come to buy groceries in the Lalkurti police station area of Meerut were sexually harassed by Kamil and Sofian. The incident took place around 3 pm in the Nala Road market and was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside a shop.
The women, residents of a colony in the Bhawanpur police station area, had gone to the market for shopping. According to police, Kamil and Sofian were sitting on a scooter outside a shop when they made obscene comments at the women. When the women objected, the two men started abusing them and sexually harassing them.
CCTV footage helps police identify the accused
The incident created commotion in the market. Both soon left the spot and ran away after the situation worsened. A video of the incident later surfaced on social media, following which the Lalkurti police and Anti-Romeo team began checking CCTV footage from the area.

Police identified the two men from the footage and arrested them. The accused were identified as Kamil, 21, son of Abdul Aleem and a resident of Jamun Mohalla, Lalkurti, and Sofian, 20, son of Haji Chand, a resident of Sotiganj under Sadar police station.
FIR registered, accused sent to court
A case was registered at Lalkurti police station on the complaint of female inspector Pooja. Police said the case was registered under the relevant sections, including Section 296 of the CrPC, and further legal action was taken. Both accused were presented in court. The CCTV footage has also been included in the investigation.
Meerut SP City Vinayak Gopal Bhosale said, “Information was received about two young men sexually harassing women in the Paith Bazaar area of Lalkurti. The outpost in-charge immediately reached the spot and collected CCTV footage from nearby cameras. The accused were identified as Kamil and Sofian from the footage and were subsequently arrested.”
Police said the matter was taken seriously and the Anti-Romeo team also joined the investigation after receiving information about the incident.
