Ahmedabad police have arrested a 23-year-old man from Chennai, identified as Kasam Ansari. He was arrested for raping a 26-year-old Hindu woman after luring her through Instagram with the promise of marriage and confining her in a city hotel for 10 days.
According to the FIR registered at Ghatlodia police station, the woman, a resident of the Ghatlodia area, came into contact with Ansari on Instagram. He initially told her he had gone through a breakup and needed a female friend for emotional support. Over time, they exchanged phone numbers and continued communicating. In June, he expressed love for her, but she rejected the proposal.
According to the police, the perpetrator later met her near Bhuyangdev Crossroads, where he molested her. She objected to his behaviour and left with her friend.

On October 3, around 8 pm, Ansari called the woman and asked her to meet him on Parasnagar Road. He then made her board an autorickshaw. The Hindu woman questioned him about their destination, but he repeatedly pleaded with her to stay for some time and took her to a hotel in Odhav. Ansari had already booked a hotel room where he repeatedly raped her between October 3 and October 13.
On October 13, after escaping from his clutches, the victim returned home, and her family took her to the Ghatlodiya police station and lodged a complaint. In-charge DCP A.V. Parmar said that around seven different Instagram accounts had been found on Kasim’s phone, and the police were investigating whether he had used them to lure other young women.
