The Delhi Police handed over two registered cases against Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka to its Crime Branch. The police registered the two cases after CJP leaders breached the peace bond and entered Connaught Place and Jantar Mantar illegally.
On Monday (19 October), police transferred the Connaught Place case to the Crime Branch, and on Tuesday (October 20), they transferred the Jantar Mantar case.
According to the Delhi Police, on 13 October, Saurav Das, Ashutosh Ranka, Anjikya Shinde and 11 other CJP members broke into Jantar Mantar, which has been denotified as a designated protest site. They entered the site illegally by trespassing on private property. Cops deployed at the spot intervened and tried to stop them. All 14 people were detained, and two FIRs were registered.

On 14 October (Wednesday), following the incident, Das and Ranka were sent to judicial custody by a Special Executive Magistrate for breaching peace bonds. They received an initial five-day remand. Their custody was subsequently extended by two additional days on Monday (19 October).
On Tuesday (20 October), CJP’s legal team moved the Delhi High Court, seeking an urgent hearing on the bail pleas of Ranka and Das. “Saurav and Ashutosh should not spend a single minute behind bars.” CJP’s Legal Affairs Head Ratna Singh wrote in an X post. She called the state’s decision “political games” that, she said, could not curtail the CJP duo’s liberty.
Meanwhile, former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has extended her support to the perpetrators, accusing the central authorities of “state-sponsored terrorism” and demanding their immediate release.
