15 members of Muslim Students Federation (MSF) were booked after they attacked leftists belonging to the Students Federation of India (SFI) at a hospital in Thenhipalam in the early hours of Thursday (October 29, 2026). A case was registered at the Tenhipalam police station following a complaint filed by the SFI Malappuram district secretary, Adhil.
SFI State Joint Secretary N. Adil and Malappuram District President M. Sujin were among the SFI members attacked by MSF members at the DMS Hospital at Mele Chelari. Among the attackers were MSF district president Farhan, secretary PK Mubashir, and state secretary Safwan. A separate case was reportedly registered by police following a complaint by the DMS Hospital for damage to property.
According to police, the incident took place around 12.30 am when Adil and Sujin were at the hospital visiting SFI workers undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in clashes that erupted after Calicut University students’ union election held the day before. Some members of the MSF, the student wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), entered the hospital around midnight and carried out the attack.
Videos of MSF members barging into the hospital carrying sticks, rods, and other weapons have been going viral on social media. The guard at the hospital was standing helpless as armed MSF members forcefully entered the hospital.

As per reports, Adil suffered a head injury, and Suji suffered serious head and nose injuries in the attack. They were initially admitted to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital and were later shifted to Perinthalmanna EMS Hospital.

Kerala Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Pinarayi Vijayan condemned the violent clashes and hospital attack by MSF and accused the police of protecting the attackers.
The attack on SFI members at the hospital was preceded by clashes at Calicut University between SFI and United Democratic Students’ Front (UDSF) members after SFI swept the student union elections held at the University. The UDSF is a coalition of the Kerala Students’ Union and the Muslim Students’ Federation. Around 30 students were injured in the clashes, and the SFI’s election committee office on the campus was vandalised.
The clashes reportedly erupted after some SFI anarchists objected to the presence of two MSF members outside their election committee office in the evening on Wednesday. Things escalated, leading to violent clashes between the SFI and UDSF. The situation was brought under control after the police’s intervention.
In the wake of the clashes, the university registrar suspended classes for undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and integrated PG students in the university’s teaching departments and study centres on October 29 and 30, 2026. Regular classes will resume from November 2, 2026. The students concerned have been directed to vacate the campus and hostels.
