An India Today anchor was recently seen defending the derogatory and anti-Hindu remarks made by CPI(ML) affiliated AISA president Neha Bora during a live show. In a viral video, India Today journalist Aneesha Mathur defended Bora, saying she is not the first to question the verse Mathur claimed Bora quoted from Manusmriti.
The journalist made the remarks while asking Supreme Court advocate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Nalin Kohli for a response to the leftist student leader’s condemnable remarks painting all Brahmins as rapists and describing Hindu temples as sites for committing rapes. Mathur justified Bora’s vitriolic statement, claiming that the verse Bora quoted has been debated and criticised for decades. “She is literally quoting from a Manusmriti shloka…she is not the first to raise that as a point of criticism because that particular shloka has been quoted, criticised, and debated for decades, really,” the journalist said to Kohli.
What the hell India Today. Why is ur anchor defending Neha Bora Anti Hindu Remarks? This anchor trying to defend Neha by: >She is quoting from Manusmriti sholka >That sholk from Manusmriti is debatable >Video is old..why racking up Old issue? This Worst Defence. https://t.co/hL2r3uAzEu

However, when the advocate asked Mathur if she had read the Manusmriti herself to ask the question with such confidence, Mathur made an embarrassing admission that she had misquoted the source of the verse. The India Today journalist apologised to Kohli and admitted that she was wrong in claiming that the verse Bora quoted was from Manusmriti.
“I am so sorry, Nalin Kohli; I’ll have to apologise to you. That couplet has been quoted extensively, but my apologies to you; I have misquoted where it is from. But my question still stands, Sir. That particular couplet has been a subject of debate for a very long time,” Mathur said.
Later, when the BJP leader called out and criticised Neha Bora for selectively quoting a verse from a Hindu scripture and using it to demean the entire Brahmin community, Mathur turned further defensive and blamed the BJP for “raking up” an old issue.
“Navin Kohli, may I also ask you one more question? We don’t know when the actual statement was made. We don’t know how old this video is. It is somebody from your party who has posted this video and commented on it. Is it not raking up an old issue?” the journalist further asked.
Bora’s vitriol against Brahmins
A video of Neha Bora recently went viral in which she can be seen spewing venom against Brahmins and Hinduism in general by selectively quoting and misinterpreting a verse. In the video, Bora said, “Gareeb, shudra, pashu, nari taadna ke adhikari hai“. She asserted that the word “taadan”, according to her, meant chastisement and therefore the verse was advocating for punishing the poor, the Shudras, animals, and women. Bora misinterpreted the Hindi word “taadan”, which roughly translates to “To look after/Care”, which totally changed the meaning of the verse.
Bora misinterpreted the verse to peddle an anti-Hindu narrative and show the Hindu religion and culture in a bad light. Furthermore, she went on to make a bogus and contemptuous claim about Hindu places of worship. The leftist student leader claimed, “Mandiro main pujaari rape karte hai” (Hindu priests commit rapes inside temples) and added that women, including Brahmin women, are unsafe under what she called the “Brahmanical system”.
Notably, Bora has been at the forefront of regime change operations against the Modi government and wished to replicate a Bangladesh-like violent revolution in India. Her hatred for Hindus and the Hindu religion is widely known.
