Class nine student beaten by senior students for protesting ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ during National Anthem singing in school

In a shocking incident, a class nine student of a school in West Bengal was beaten senior students after he protested to the chants of ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ during the singing of the National Anthem. The student Arup Halder had to be hospitalised after the incident that happened on Thursday.

According to a report by Bengali daily Dainik Jugasankha, the incident happened in the Taldi Mohanchand High School in Canning in 24 Paragana district. On Thursday morning when the students were singing the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana as per custom, some Muslim students of class 12 suddenly started shouting ‘Allah Hu Akbar’ instead of singing the anthem. Although other students remained silent to this, class nine student Arup Halder could not tolerate it.

Arup vehemently protested the vilification of National Anthem by the Muslim students, and tried to inform the teaches about the same. But the unruly students got infuriated at this, and they thrashed him badly. Due to the serious nature of the injuries, he was admitted at the Canning Hospital by the teachers of the school.

The family of Arup has alleged that the school authorities have not taken any action against the students who thrashed Arup. They also allege that the police also refused to register a case when they went to lodge a complaint about the incident. It is alleged that police took Arup’s mothers signature on a plain paper for a mutual settlement of the case. Rafiqul Gazi and Ashaful Gazi are the main accused in the case, who were joined by two other class 12 students in beating Arup.

US snubs Pak PM Imran Khan, welcomed by low-key US officials on his maiden visit, escorted to the terminal in a bus

The humiliation does not seem to stop for the parody country Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In a video shared by Government of Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan can be seen deboarding the commercial flight and later boarded a bus along with Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi and Pakistan ambassador to the US Asad M Khan. Reportedly, he was not accorded the due state protocol while he landed in America.

Khan not only flew a commercial airline, but he even flew Qatar Airways instead of the national carrier Pakistan International Airlines.

Reportedly, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has travelled to the United States of America on a state visit to meet his counterpart US President Donald Trump. As Pakistan is on a verge of both financial and moral bankruptcy, just like their citizens, low-key officials of the United States state department had arrived to welcome him.

While entire Pakistan is celebrating the maiden visit of Imran Khan, the Trump administration cared little for Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Interestingly, Imran Khan was escorted out of the airport in a people mover instead of official vehicles. As per reports, Khan was not accorded the official welcome protocol when he reached America.

This is not the first time Khan has been humiliated. In October 2012, the cricketer-turned-politician who was on his way to the US via Toronto was asked to deboard where the authorities had interrogated him for an hour on his views on drones. Earlier this month, Pakistan had claimed that Khan has been invited to Russia for Eastern Economic Forum. However, Russia denied having invited him.

Kamal Nath government threatens to restrict Narmada water in Gujarat, plays politics over rehabilitation of project affected people

The Madhya Pradesh government headed by Kamal Nath has threatened the Gujarat government of restricting the flow of Narmada into the state on the pretext of Gujarat government not taking up the matter of rehabilitation seriously.

According to the reports, Madhya Pradesh Minister for Narmada Valley Development Surendra Singh Baghel on Saturday threatened not to release the Narmada water for the Sardar Sarovar dam unless the Gujarat government and the Centre addressed its concerns about the dam-affected people.

He has accused the Gujarat government and the Centre of not addressing the concerns about the project-affected people. He also alleged that the Gujarat government was not serious about meetings under the Narmada Control Authority (NCA) to help rehabilitate those people hit by the project. Baghel had also accused Gujarat government of not releasing water for power generation.

Meanwhile, the Gujarat government has now warned Madhya Pradesh not to play politics over Narmada water and that both were bound by the ruling of the Supreme Court and the Narmada Control Authority (NCA) in the matter.

Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel accused the Congress government in Madhya Pradesh of playing politics over the issue. He said that MP government’s ‘threat’ showed a lack of understanding of the legal agreement reached under the NCA.

Nitin Patel clarified that under the NCA agreement the water could be released for power generation only after it reached a level of 131 metres in the dam and that the state had already paid Rs. 400 crore to rehabilitate the project-affected people.

“We will get our share of Narmada water that is due to us. It doesn’t befit the Congress to keep aside the entire interest of the nation to play politics over water,” said Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

“The party is unable to digest its defeat in the Lok Sabha polls and is now coming up with ways to politicise matters that have already been decided,” said Rupani. “The water is being distributed as per the share decided by the NCA and no state can suddenly decide to change it.”

Chief Minister Rupani also clarified that the Madhya Pradesh government first raised the issue of displaced people on May 27 stating that over 6,000 were yet to be rehabilitated. He added that the Madhya Pradesh boycotted the meeting of the Sardar Sarovar Reservoir Regulation Committee on July 18.

“The Resettlement and Rehabilitation sub-group of the NCA held a meeting on the issue on July 12, but no senior official of the MP government participated. They also boycotted a meeting of the Sardar Sarovar Reservoir Regulation Committee on July 18.”

However, Baghel contended that MP government officials had to shun the NCA meeting “because they (Gujarat government and the Centre) are not taking us seriously”.

The two hydel electricity generation plants at the Sardar Sarovar dam have a capacity of 1,450 MW, which is shared by Madhya Pradesh (57 per cent), Maharashtra (27 per cent) and Gujarat (16 per cent).

Netizens ‘express concern’ over Priyanka Chopra’s asthma after a picture where she is smoking cigarette went viral on social media

Actress Priyanka Chopra’s picture where she is smoking a cigarette has gone viral on social media. Her husband Nick Jonas and her mother are also seen in the picture smoking cigars. Netizens took to Twitter to express their concern over Chopra’s asthma because of which she has always campaigned against smoke, especially from firecrackers.

Twitterati also pointed out her own hypocrisy.

Few weeks prior to her wedding last year, during Diwali, Priyanka Chopra had urged people to skip crackers in Diwali, as it makes life difficult for asthma patients. Chopra herself has been suffering from asthma since childhood, she has claimed.

Twitter users even dug up Chopra’s own old tweet condemning smoking where she had claimed she does not smoke. While things could change with time so do personal preferences, the hypocrisy is quite baffling.

The duality of celebrities when it comes to what they preach and what they practice is often pointed out on social media.

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma wants to kiss Cyberabad Police nonstop for 39 days. Here is why

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma wants to kiss Cyberabad Police nonstop for 39 days. He even says that if he had a second daughter, he would’ve married her to Cyberabad Police. The reason is Cyberabad Police sent him a challan. No, not for unleashing Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag on unsuspecting audience years ago, but for violating traffic rules.

Yesterday, Varma posted on Twitter a video of himself riding pillion on a bike, with two others, asking where is the Police. He said that the Police may be busy watching the film ‘Is Smart Shankar’ and hence he was flaunting how he was flouting traffic rules.

The Police, however, did not take it too kindly. Turns out, an alert citizen informed Cyberabad Police about the traffic rules violation, following which Cyberabad Police swung into action. The police issued an e-challan to Varma.

The Cyberabad Police then informed Varma via Twitter that while they were grateful that Varma was reporting traffic rules violation, they hope next time he actually follow the same himself. They even attached copy of the challan issued.

Extremely thrilled at receiving the challan, Varma took to Twitter to thank them.

Earlier, Mumbai Police has also used Twitter effectively to teach celebrities a lesson or two in traffic rules as well as humility. In November 2017, the Mumbai Police reprimanded film actor Varun Dhavan for taking a selfie in middle of the road at a traffic signal. The picture was published in the tabloid Mid-day, which showed Dhavan obliging a visibly excited fan in an autorickshaw next to his car by stretching out of his car and taking a selfie. Mumbai Police reprimanded Dhavan and said that such stunts look good only in films, in real life they could be a threat to him, the fan and even other commuters on the road. They said as a responsible Mumbaikar, they expect better from him. Mumbai Police even issued a challan to Dhavan.

Similarly, in December last year, a video of Actor Dulquer Salman shot by Sonam Kapoor went viral in the social media. In the video, Salman was seen fidgeting with his mobile phone while sitting on the driver seat in a moving car and Sonam Kapoor, who appeared to be shooting the video, was heard saying ‘weirdo’ to Salman. When Mumbai Police reprimanded them for such a stunt, Sonam went defensive and asked Mumbai Police to take so much interest in ‘regular folks’ as well.

An FIR was lodged against Mahto by Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at anti-human trafficking unit (AHTU), Khunti. Baidyanath Kumar, a member of CWC, said the case was lodged in 2018 for his involvement in the trafficking of a minor girl from a Khunti block.

“The girl was trafficked to Delhi last year. She was rescued by the Delhi police, who handed her over to Delhi CWC. The girl was, thereafter, brought to Khunti CWC where her statement was recorded,” Kumar said.

Kashmir problem will be solved and no power in the world can stop it: Rajnath Singh

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday asserted that Kashmir problem will be solved and that no power in the world can stop it. The defence minister earlier today paid tributes to the fallen soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War at a war memorial in Drass sector of Jammu at Kashmir on the eve of 20th Anniversary of ‘Operation Vijay.’

Besides, Singh also inaugurated bridges at Ujh in Kathua and Basantar in Samba district constructed by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).

“Problem of Kashmir will get solved and no power in the world can stop it. If somebody does not want a solution through talks, then we know very well how a solution can be found,” Singh added while addressing a press conference in Kathua after the inauguration.

“People who are running a movement in Kashmir, if they want a solution through it I appeal to them to at least sit and talk once, to understand what is the issue, what are the problems, so they could be solved together,” he further added.

In response to a question, Singh affirmed there is no doubt the state would be free from terrorism. He further said the world community was getting together to combat terrorism and he believes the world would get rid of the menace.

Singh asked the people to keep faith in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership when questioned on ceasefire violations. He also asked them to believe in the jawans and officers of the military. “We won’t breach your trust.”

Singh also complimented the BRO for constructing the bridges. “BRO DG said this is the longest bridge to be constructed by the BRO. This bridge will help people in the way they won’t have to travel longer distances. I congratulate the BRO.”

JNU Professor accuses the university of harassment over her Muslim identity, university denies the allegations

After a professor accused discrimination by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) over her Muslim identity, the Delhi Minorities Commission has sprung into action issuing a notice to the university even as it vehemently denied the allegations levelled by the professor. The panel has asked the university Registrar to respond by August 1, failing which a case will be registered against him, the Vice-Chancellor and the Chairperson of the University.

Taking cognisance of the complaint filed by the female professor, the notice and an interim order were issued to the varsity’s Registrar. In her complaint, the Muslim woman professor has alleged “systematic harassment” by the JNU administration, especially by the Director of the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy where she is a teacher under a University Grants Commission-funded scheme.

In the complaint, the professor has asserted she has sufficient proofs to establish that indiscrimination was meted out to her due to her Muslim identity. She has claimed that her salary, since the month of April, was withheld without offering her legal reasons for the same. She also alleged she was neither assigned the classes nor the opportunity to oversee MPhil and PhD students. The notice also mentions that she is not allowed to attend the Centre faculty meetings and precluded from using the official internet and email id.

According to the Delhi Minority Commission (DMC), the professor has alleged that her profile is not uploaded on the JNU website.

“Not content with all this, the JNU administration is pressurising her to vacate her accommodation on the campus. Before joining JNU in 2013, the complainant served Hyderabad Central University for four years as a permanent faculty member,” the notice said.

The complainant insisted the university has plans to finally “kick her out” claiming that she does no work.

However, the varsity officials have vehemently refuted her allegations. “She is serving in the university as part of a planned project by UGC and is not a permanent employee of the varsity. Her remuneration is granted by the UGC and not by the varsity. The UGC had withheld her salary but now they have released it and she has been paid,” an official said.

The complainant has told the DMC that she has been harassed to such an extent that she is contemplating committing suicide and is afraid of Najeeb Ahmed’s fate, the JNU student who went missing on October 15, 2016.

The DMC has issued an interim order to the Registrar to put an end to any sort of harassment of the complainant. In addition, it has directed that Registrar release her arrears by July 26 and systematise future salary payments during her tenure.

“JNU administration has also been limited from withdrawing the housing facility enjoyed by the complainant on the university campus during her tenure at JNU,” the DMC added.

The commission has also instructed the Station House Officer of Vasant Kunj police station to abstain from granting any police assistance to oust the complainant from her accommodation within the JNU campus.

Last year the Delhi High Court had ordered the JNU to clear the salaries of two professors from the same department in JNU, Kaustav Banerjee and Rosina Nasir, after they had alleged that the salaries were not paid for a year. Banerjee had left the university after that. It is not sure whether Rosina Nasir is the complainant this time also. According to JNU website, there are 2 woman professors in the Centre for the Study of Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy under the School of Social Sciences, Anuja and Rosina Nasir.
