Congress rally in Bengaluru blocks route to NEET centres, resulting in 3 candidates missing the exam, while PM Modi waits at the airport to avoid inconvenience to students

Three students missed the NEET exam on Sunday (21st June) in Bengaluru after they arrived 2 minutes late at an examination centre due to being stuck in traffic caused by a Congress rally. The incident happened at RC Government College, Bengaluru, where the gates of the exam centre were closed at exactly 1:30 pm. Three female candidates arrived at the centre at 1:32 pm, missing the entry by a couple of minutes.

A final announcement was made over the public address system at 1:29 pm, informing candidates that the main gate would be closed precisely at 1:30 pm.

In a desperate attempt to gain entry into the examination hall, the students climbed over the railing of the main gate and entered the campus of the examination centre. However, the entrance to the examination hall had been sealed according to the examination rules by that time. The parents of the students said that they left for the examination centre on time, but they got delayed by heavy traffic allegedly caused by a Congress rally in the city.

Several other NEET aspirants nearly missed the examination as they arrived at the examination centre at MES PU College, Malleswaram, at the last minute. The students rushed to the examination centre to arrive just in time after being stuck in traffic due to the Congress rally.

BJP MP from Bengaluru South, Tejasvi Surya, lashed out at the Congress Party for choosing the NEET re-examination day for conducting the rally, showing complete disregard for students’ interests. “The Congress party could have chosen any other day for its rally at Palace Grounds. Instead, it chose the very day thousands of students are appearing for NEET. As massive traffic disruptions choked Bengaluru, many students were delayed, some reaching exam centres in panic and having to plead with authorities to be allowed inside,” Surya wrote on X. He thanked the examination authorities for accommodating students and giving them compensatory time.

The BJP MP accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of showing a lack of sensitivity for students appearing for the NEET re-examination.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delayed his journey to his residence from the airport to avoid causing any inconvenience to the students appearing for the NEET re-examination.

PM Modi arrived at Delhi Airport at 1:15 PM today, but decided to wait at the airport for 45 minutes instead of immediately heading for his residence. He delayed his journey from the airport to the PM’s house so that students would not face any inconvenience in reaching the examination centres on time due to roadblocks placed by the SPG and the police as per security protocol.

The prime minister departed from the airport at 2 PM, by which time all the students had reached their exam centres. The Prime Minister was returning from his two-day trip to Odisha and West Bengal.

The National Testing Agency is conducting the NEET-UG 2026 re-exam for admission into the undergraduate course in medical colleges on Sunday. The test was originally held on May 3, but it was cancelled due to the alleged leak of the question papers.

The re-examination on Sunday is scheduled from 2.00 PM to 5.15 PM. It is being conducted across 5,440 centres in 551 cities in India and 14 centres abroad.

To ensure a secure and efficient examination process, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has implemented comprehensive security and surveillance measures across the exam rooms. The rooms are equipped with CCTV cameras that are being monitored. Jammers provided by ECIL and BEL have also been deployed. The entry for the exam centres followed a strict process with metal detectors in place.

The NTA has stationed two invigilators in every room, with over ten functionaries present at each centre. The Indian Air Force transported the question papers, and paramilitary forces along with local police have been deployed at exam centres, with strict prohibitory orders issued by the administration.
