‘Politically questionable and ideologically inconsistent’: AIMIM refuses alliance with suspended TMC MLA Humayun Kabir

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), led by Asaduddin Owaisi, on Monday, 8th December, has clearly said “No” to any election partnership with the recently suspended Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA, Humayun Kabir.

Kabir, who was suspended by TMC last week after constant fights with the party leadership, is planning to start his own political party on December 22nd and was openly talking about a possible alliance with AIMIM.

AIMIM’s national spokesperson, Syed Asim Waqar, quickly rejected Kabir’s idea, saying the proposed alliance was “politically questionable and ideologically inconsistent.” This firm statement from AIMIM came just days after Kabir held a foundation stone-laying ceremony for a mosque in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district.

The main reason for the refusal seems to be a strong doubt about Kabir’s political loyalties. Waqar pointed out that publicly known information suggests Kabir is very close to senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari and the BJP’s central leadership. “Everyone knows that Adhikari works closely with the BJP’s core strategy at the national level,” Waqar said.

Waqar added that Owaisi’s politics are all about Constitutional values, peace, and social harmony, and they can’t team up with anyone whose actions create division or unrest. He stressed that the Muslim community supports nation-building and rejects politics based on provocation.

The AIMIM spokesperson claimed that Muslims in West Bengal are fully aware of the political reasons behind Kabir’s recent actions, and they understand who is pulling the strings and for what purpose. This is the first time AIMIM has formally denied Kabir’s claims about alliance talks.
