Canada: Aircraft crash lands after tyres fail to deploy upon landing, catches fire but no casualties

On Saturday (28th December) night, an Air Canada flight crash-landed at the Halifax Stanfield International Airport, prompting authorities to temporarily shut it down.

According to reports, the aircraft (identified as Air Canada Flight 2259) skidded on the runway and caught fire after its tyres failed to deploy upon landing.

“The plane started to sit at about a 20-degree angle to the left and, as that happened, we heard a pretty loud — what almost sounded like a crash sound — as the wing of the plane started to skid along the pavement, along with what I presume was the engine,” a passenger told CBC News.

“The plane shook quite a bit and we started seeing fire on the left side of the plane and smoke started coming in the windows,” the passenger further added.

“One side of the entire plane was on fire, so everyone was pretty much in a hurry to get off — but an organized hurry,” she stated.

No casualties have been reported so far. All the passengers on board were evacuated successfully. No one reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries.
