Air traffic disrupted in USA: Around 1800 flights cancelled, thousands delayed due to winter storm Devin

Air traffic has been disrupted all over the USA during the post-Christmas rush days due to the powerful winter storm Devin. As per reports and FlightAware data, as many as 1500-1800 flights have been cancelled, and thousands more delayed.

New York City and surrounding areas are seeing heavy snowfall, with forecasts predicting 4–10 inches (up to 25 cm) overnight into Saturday, the worst snowfall in years. The National Weather Service issued winter storm warnings and hazardous road conditions. New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency, deploying plows and crews to clear streets.

Major airports in the New York area, JFK, Newark, and LaGuardia are seeing the worst of the cancellations. JetBlue and Delta airlines saw the most groundings, followed by American, United, and others airlines.

American Airlines, United Airlines and JetBlue have reportedly waived off change fee for re-bookings. New Jersey and Pennsylvania have issued commercial vehicle restrictions on some roads, including many interstate highways, Reuters reported.

National Weather Service stated that the winter storm Devin is expected to cause adverse travel conditions for a large region from the Great Lakes into the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England through Sasturday and Sunday.
