A 31-year-old man named Akash Kailash Kanojia has lost his job and marriage after being falsely identified as the attacker of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan.
Kanojia was detained by Railway Protection Force (RPF) on 17th January while he was en route to Bilaspur. In an unfortunate case of mistaken identity, the Mumbai police had alerted RPF about Kanojia and accused him of carrying out the attack on Saif Ali Khan.
The victim worked as a driver at a tour company. After his photograph was circulated by the Mumbai police along with a press release, Kanojia was laid off from his job.
His marriage proposal was also called off. Kanojia said, “The RPF personnel not only apprehended me, they also issued a press release with my photograph, which was shown widely by television channels and media outlets.”
“As a result, the bride’s family cancelled the meeting with me and my employer terminated my services,” he added. Later, the police released him and apprehended the real culprit Shariful Islam Shehzad.
Kanojia is now fighting legally to pull down his pictures from the internet, which falsely identified him as the attacker of Saif Ali Khan.
