Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma vows “more to come” after Al Jazeera’s propaganda report on Dhubri land reclamation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has doubled down on the state’s anti-encroachment drive in Dhubri district, vowing that evictions will persist until all illegally occupied land is recovered. His remarks came in response to a post by Al Jazeera’s propaganda reporting on Dhubri district’s land reclamation drive that happened on 1 November.

Sarma wrote on X, “More to come. We will not stop till every inch of our land is reclaimed,” responding directly to the Jihadi outlet’s coverage. The Al Jazeera propaganda report described the eviction as part of a government campaign targeting Muslim families.

Al Jazeera has been consistent in its anti-India and anti-Hindu agenda. In continuation of the Muslim victimhood bogey, Al Jazeera has published a video report claiming that the recent anti-encroachment drive in Assam’s Dhubri ‘displaced’ 4,000 ‘Bengali-speaking Muslims’.

The Assam government and the Dhubri district administration did not specifically target or demolish 550 houses belonging to “Bengali-speaking Muslims” or “Muslim Bengalis.”

The eviction drive in Muslim-majority Gauripur’s Alamganj Part-IX in Dhibru district was carried out to reclaim approximately 650 bighas (nearly 215 acres) of government khas land that was illegally encroached upon by about 550 houses.

The operation began at about 7:30 a.m. on 1 November. It focused on the largest continuous area of encroached government land, which had been occupied by Muslims. The encroached land was identified in the Gauripur revenue circle.

Dhubri authorities said the affected people had illegally occupied the land. Al Jazeera, however, referred to them as “Muslim Bengalis” from Dhubri, framing the narrative that the BJP government, led by “Hindu nationalist” Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, was targeting Bengali-speaking Muslim Indians apparently because of their faith.

OpIndia debunked the Qatari Islamist propaganda outlet’s hypocrisy in its report. AL Jazeera selectively framed the eviction to advance its Islamic victimhood narrative rather than reporting the legal and administrative basis for the drive. The OpIndia piece clarified that the evictions were a lawful anti-encroachment operation, not a targeted campaign against any community.
