Bangladeshi Umpire Sharfuddoula gives Yashasvi Jaiswal out on review despite Snicko showing no edge

On Monday, December 30, Australia defeated India comprehensively in the Boxing Day Test at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground. Australia won the match by 184 runs. However, for most part of the 5th day, the game appeared to be heading towards a draw before the controversial dismissal of Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.

Jaiswal was batting confidently and leading the Indian batting with his second successive 80+ score in the Test when Australian Captain Pat Cummins bowled a short ball to him. Jaiswal tried to hook the ball but missed and wicket keeper Alex Carey claimed the catch. The on field Umpire called it Not Out and then Australia opted for a DRS review.

Upon review, it was seen that the snickometer showed no spike when the ball passed Jaiswal’s gloves. However, the 3rd Umpire Sharfuddoula ignored that evidence and overturned the on field Umpire’s decision and declared Jaiswal out.

Following Jaiswal’s unfortunate dismissal, the rest of the batting folded quickly and India lost the Test to go 1-2 behind in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
