On Monday (13th January), BBC News published an article wherein it dubbed the Maha Kumbh Mela as a ‘bathing spectacle.’
At the same time, it referred to the Naga Sadhus as ‘naked ash-smeared ascetics.’ The politically tone-deaf and culturally insensitive article was written by controversial ‘journalist’ Geeta Pandey.
Following social media outrage, BBC News dropped the word ‘naked’ from its headline.
In April 2023, BBC News ‘journalist’ Geeta Pandey stirred the hornet’s nest by trying to create a sympathy wave for deceased gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed.
She had also batted for fake news peddler Prashant Bhushan in an article titled ‘India finds an unlikely hero in lawyer-activist.’
Geeta Pandey has also tried to discredit ‘love jihad’ as a conspiracy theory, despite 100s of documented cases of forced conversion and identity fraud.
