The former Congress president sparked controversy on the opening day of the Budget session by remarking that President Murmu “looked very tired, poor thing.” The BJP strongly condemned the statement and called for an unconditional apology from Sonia Gandhi.
Speaking at a public rally in Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Congress for disrespecting President Droupadi Murmu, highlighting her tribal background and Odia mother tongue. He praised her inspiring speech in Parliament and condemned the Congress leadership for demeaning her.
“A member of the so-called royal family of Congress dismissed the speech of a tribal daughter as boring, while another went further by calling the President a ‘poor thing.’ They find her speech unworthy simply because she is from a tribal background. This is an insult to 10 crore tribal brothers and sisters across the country,” PM Modi stated.
He further accused the Congress of disrespecting the poor and indulging in defaming India abroad. “They thrive on insults, support urban Naxals, and spread negativity. Delhi must remain cautious—these two ego-driven leaders have united out of fear of losing,” he added.
