The rise of Chinese Artificial Intelligence company DeepSeek has shaken up the world, including the US establishment that considered itself the front runner in the AI race. Now, newly elected US President Donald Trump has called the rise of DeepSeek “a wake-up call” for the US tech industry, as it triggered shock waves on Wall Street.
Shares of major US tech stocks nosedived as news of DeepSeek filtered through, including those of chip manufacturer NVidia. DeepSeek’s AI model was apparently made at a fraction of the cost of its rivals from USA, and it has raised questions about the future of America’s AI dominance.
DeepSeek was also the most downloaded app in the USA during the last week after its launch.
While calling it a wake up call for US tech companies, President Trump also said that he was not concerned about the DeepSeek breakthrough, adding the US will remain a dominant player in the field.
