Delhi court orders FIR against 2 DU Professors, accused were involved in forging documents to help woman secure teaching job: Here is what we know so far

A Delhi court has directed the city police to register an FIR against three people, including two Associate Professors of the University of Delhi’s Bharati College, over allegations of cheating and forging documents to help a woman secure a teaching job.

The order was passed on Wednesday, 1st July, by Judicial Magistrate First Class Gaurav Katariya of Rohini Courts while hearing an application filed by a 28-year-old woman, who earlier worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Bharati College. She had approached the court seeking directions for the registration of an FIR under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

According to the complaint, the woman came into contact with two assistant professors from Delhi University, who convinced her to pay ₹1 lakh for publishing research papers. They told her that published research articles were necessary to secure a teaching position at the university.

The complainant said she was later appointed as an Assistant Professor on 23rd November, 2023. However, on 8th August, 2024, the college principal informed her that an RTI inquiry had found the research publications submitted during her appointment process to be fake. Following this, her services were terminated.

While directing the police to register an FIR, the court observed that the allegations disclosed cognisable offences and required a proper police investigation. The judge also said an inquiry was necessary to find out whether there were other victims of a similar nature.

The court clarified that its order only directs the registration of an FIR and an investigation. It does not amount to a finding of guilt, and the allegations against the accused will be examined during the investigation.
