Delhi police clarifies that no permission has been granted to ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’ to protest at Jantar Mantar

On Thursday (20th August), the Delhi police took to X (formerly Twitter) to clarify that no permission has been granted to the ‘Reservation Hatao Andolan’ to protest at Jantar Mantar tomorrow.

In a statement, the police informed, “Videos/Posts claiming that permission has been granted for the “Reservation Hatao Andolan” at Jantar Mantar on 21 August being circulated on social media are false and misleading. No permission has been granted for any protest, procession, demonstration or assembly at Jantar Mantar.”

The cops further added that prohibitory measures have been put in force to prevent the assembly of 5 or more people. “Prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS (erstwhile Section 144 CrPC) are already in force in New Delhi District. Accordingly, the assembly of five or more persons is strictly prohibited,” the statement read.


The Delhi Police pointed out, “Citizens are advised to verify information through official sources before believing or circulating it. Legal action may be initiated against those creating or disseminating fake news.

The Reservation Hatao Andolan (RHA) came into existence shortly after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest ended at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. It started out as an Instagram page with the goal of ending ‘casteism’ and ‘reservation.’

The Instagram page currently has 5.7 million followers. Supporters of the anti-reservation movement have been calling for a demonstration at the Jantar Mantar on Friday (21st August). However, the Delhi police have now clarified that permisison for such a protest has not been granted.
