In a major development, the University of Delhi plans to introduce a PhD programme in Hindu studies starting in the academic year 2025-2026.
The proposal was floated by the varsity’s Standing Committee on the recommendation of the Centre for Hindu Studies’s governing body.
The PhD programme was initially planned to start from the current academic session but was later postponed. The objective behind the new initiative is to create opportunities for students.
Prerna Malhotra, who works as the Joint Director of the Centre for Hindu Studies, remarked, “Students have been approaching the Centre, enquiring about research opportunities, especially those who have already qualified JRF and NET in Hindu Studies.”
“As a premier institution, Delhi University is committed to providing such opportunities and advancing research in diverse areas of Hindu Studies,” she added.
The initial seats for PhD programme will be around 10. The seats may be increased in the upcoming sessions based on the academic requirements and the infrastructure of the Centre for Hindu Studies.
