President Donald Trump on Friday outlined several non-negotiable conditions for finalising a potential deal with Iran aimed at ending hostilities and restoring stability in the region. In a detailed Truth Social post, he indicated that negotiations had advanced on lesser issues, but key elements still required resolution before he would make a final decision in the Situation Room.
According to the post on Truth Social, Iran must commit to never developing or possessing a nuclear weapon or bomb. Trump further demanded the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz with no tolls, allowing unrestricted shipping traffic in both directions. He noted that any remaining water mines would need to be removed or detonated by Iran, adding that U.S. naval forces had already cleared many such threats. With the U.S. naval blockade now set to be lifted, ships previously trapped in the area could begin heading home, he further added.
On the nuclear front, Trump specified that enriched material, referred to as “Nuclear Dust”, buried deep underground from prior U.S. strikes must be unearthed and completely destroyed. This sensitive operation would involve coordinated efforts by the United States, Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency. No financial exchanges would occur until further notice, he added.
President Trump added that only the US and China have the mechanical capability of retrieving the nuclear dust.
The president described these points as central to achieving a lasting resolution, adding that talks are progressing positively on several secondary matters. He planned to review the situation immediately before reaching a conclusion.
“Other items, of far less importance, have been agreed to,” Trump further said, adding that he will be taking a final determination in a meeting held at the Situation Room of the White House.
