Donations to TMC increase 3 folds to 184 crore in one year, lottery distributor in Bengal among its top funders

448 contributors provided Rs 184.96 crore to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress (AITC/TMC) during the 2024–2025 fiscal year, reported The Indian Express. It represents a nearly threefold increase over the previous fiscal year’s contribution report to the Election Commission (EC) of Rs 64.24 crore. Electoral trusts in Delhi and Mumbai, a lottery distributor in Bengal and businesses with manufacturing facilities in the state are among the top ten benefactors of the party.

The Trinamool Congress received contributions of Rs 92 crore from Prudent Electoral Trust and Rs 50 crore from Tiger Associates. “Tiger Associates is the area distributor in West Bengal for distribution of Nagaland state lotteries, sikkim state lotteries and Punjab state lotteries,” stated the official website.

The iron, steel and cement company Rashmi Cement Limited devoted Rs 5 crore to TMC while the Mumbai-based Progressive Electoral Trust, whose primary donors are Tata Group companies, supplied Rs 10 crore. The group has plants in Jhargram and Kharagpur in the Paschim Medinipur district, as well as a corporate office in Kolkata.

Shyam Ferro Alloys Limited, a manufacturer and exporter of stainless steel, contributed Rs 3 crore to the TMC. A trading and mining company based in Kolkata, Kejriwal Mining, also donated Rs 3 crore. Super Smelters, an iron and steel manufacturer that operates a captive power plant at the Jamuria Industrial Estate in Asansol in Paschim Bardhaman district gave Rs 2 crore. An equal amount was paid by IVL Dhanseri Petrochem Industries, a plastic manufacturer with factories in the port city of Haldia of Purba Medinipur district and Punjab’s Karnal.

A financial expert named Kishan Gopal Mohta was the largest individual donor and added Rs 3 crore to the party’s resources. The ruling party in Bengal was discovered to have redeemed Rs 1,609 crore between April 2019 and January 2024 when the electoral bond data was made public in 2024. It ranked second only to the BJP. The party collected roughly Rs 612 crore in electoral bonds during the 2023–2024 fiscal year.

Trinamool Congress also received contributions that varied between Rs 22,000 to Rs 30,000 from nearly 199 of its 213 MLAs including ministers like Bratya Basu, Babul Supriyo, Aroop Biswas, Chandrima Bhattacharya and Firhad Hakim. Additionally, forty current and former MPs similarly made donations including Rajya Sabha MP Sagarika Ghoshe who gave Rs 1.2 lakh, Jangipur MP Khalilur Rahman contibuted Rs 3.8 lakh, Krishnanagar MP Mahua Moitra gave Rs 1 lakh and Kolkata Dakshin MP Mala Roy donated Rs 6.12 lakh.
