In a major anti-drug operation near the Indo-Myanmar border, the Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized a large consignment of methamphetamine tablets in Mizoram’s Champhai district.
Acting on specific inputs, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police conducted a search operation near Hmunhmeltha Road on Thursday, 19th March. During the operation, 7.907 kg of Methamphetamine tablets were recovered from an abandoned vehicle, which had an Assam registration number.
According to the Officials, it is estimated that the seized drugs have a market value of around ₹23.72 crores in the illegal market and hence is a large seizure in this region. The vehicle used for the transportation of the contraband has also been seized.
After the seizure, the drugs and the vehicle were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation. The Authorities are now trying to trace the individuals involved in the smuggling network and trying to find out where the consignment was headed.
