A man dressed as a Nihang Sikh was arrested by police in the Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday (7th April), carrying several swords. A case was registered by the police against the man identified as Pradeep s/o Laxman Das, under Section 125(1-B)(b) of the Arms Act, 1959.
According to the FIR accessed by OpIndia, Station House Officer (Inspector) at the City Kotwali Police Station, Pravin Arya, received inputs about the accused roaming near the Railway Outer signal, close to the ‘Panch Pulia’ (Five Culverts) on Bamangaon Road, Khandwa, dressed as a Nihang and carrying a sack full of swords. The accused was trying to sell the swords to people.

Upon receiving the information, SHO Pravin Arya, accompanied by Sub-Inspector Ramprakash Yadav, Sub-Inspector Manoj Dave, Constable Arvind, Constable Rahul Parmar, Constable Alesh, Constable Hemant, Constable Pankaja, and two witnesses, left for the spot, where the accused was roaming. After arriving at the spot, the team of police spotted the accused standing under a tree carrying a white sack on his shoulder. The police cordoned off the area and surrounded the accused, who tried to flee but was caught.

The accused, aged 30 years, is a resident of Ward No. 4, Lane No. 1, Fatehpur Undri, Police Station Undri, District Kaithal (Haryana). 29 swords, estimated to be worth ₹30,000, were seized by police from the sack he was carrying. The accused failed to produce any valid documents regarding the swords, which were deposited by the police in the Malkhana. An investigation is being carried out by the police in the matter.
