On Thursday (24th July), the Election Commission of India announced that it will undertake Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls across the country.
In its order, the nodal election body declared, “Commission has now decided to begin the Special Intensive Revision in the entire country for the discharge of its constitutional mandate to protect the integrity of electoral rolls…”
“The schedule for SIR in the rest of the country will be issued in due course,” it emphasised.
The announcement by Election Commission of India (ECI) comes amid opposition of the same exercise in Bihar by Congress and RJD.
The objective of the Special Intensive Revision of the Election Commission is to remove duplicate and ineligible voters.
