On Thursday (19th March), Mathur Sathya, a former Communist Party of India (CPI) and self-declared social justice activist, was arrested in Bengaluru after complaints of sexual harassment were filed against him by multiple women. The police said that the arrested accused is being brought to Chennai for further investigation into the matter.
Days after the sexual harassment allegations against Mathur Sathya, the CPI held a meeting on 14th March in this regard. On 16th March, the party’s South Chennai district secretary S K Siva announced that Sathya has been removed from CPI’s primary membership and all associated bodies, including All India Youth Federation, and the Indian Society for Cultural Cooperation and Friendship.
Sathya is originally from Salem, is an engineering graduate who reportedly quit his corporate job in 2019, to become a full-time ‘caste activist’. He joined the Neelam Social platform, founded by filmmaker Pa Ranjith, who often indulges in anti-Hindu and anti-upper-caste narratives through his films, wherein Sathya made caste, social justice, and politics-related videos.

Back in 2021, leftist propaganda portal The News Minute had published a profile of Mathur Sathya, hailing him as an ‘intellectual who left an IT job to fight for social justice’. However, as the allegations of sexual harassment against Mathur Sathya emerged, The News Minute removed the profile and left an editor’s note, which reads: “We have taken down an earlier profile of Mathur Satya after speaking to women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. We believe the article should not continue to be hosted in light of these accounts.”
