A First Information Report (FIR) has reportedly been filed in Delhi naming Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest organisers Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh in connection with a cybercrime involving the morphed image of a woman displayed during the outfit’s Jantar Mantar protest.

The case concerns allegations that a woman’s photograph was digitally manipulated using face-swapping and other editing tools and placed alongside an image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a purportedly objectionable and sexually suggestive manner. The complainant has alleged that the morphed image was subsequently printed on banners and posters and displayed publicly during the CJP protest.
According to the FIR, the woman says she is not associated with the CJP, its protest or the content displayed on the banners. She alleges that her photograph was used without her consent and that the manipulated image was deployed to publicly humiliate her and damage her reputation.
The FIR further alleges that the banners were displayed and waved before crowds at Jantar Mantar, while derogatory slogans and vulgar and sexually suggestive comments were made about her. It also alleges that videos showing the banners and the slogans were recorded and subsequently circulated on social media.
It specifically names CJP organisers Saurav Das, Abhijit Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka and Ratna Singh, alleging that they and their associates had unauthorisedly obtained and used her photographs. The complainant has sought urgent action against those responsible.
The document states that the complaint has been made in the context of provisions under the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The exact sections and allegations will ultimately be determined from the registered FIR and the police investigation.
The four individuals named in the complaint have been prominent figures in the CJP’s Jantar Mantar agitation. Das and Ranka served as CJP spokespersons, while Dipke was identified as the outfit’s founder and Ratna Singh as part of its core team. The Indian Express previously reported that the four were among the key figures involved in organising and sustaining the 36-day protest.
The CJP’s leadership has previously faced other legal disputes connected with statements and social-media posts; in September, the Delhi High Court dealt with posts attributed to Saurav Das concerning BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia, after which Das and Ashutosh Ranka undertook to remove the posts.
