Gujarat ATS arrests 5 more Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists under UAPA, accused were in touch with Pakistani handlers

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested five additional suspects allegedly linked to the Pakistan-based banned terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed.

This is a continuation of the ongoing crackdown on JeM modules in the state, and the arrests have been made in multiple districts, including areas in Patan district such as Khadiyal village in Siddhpur taluka.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Bilal Abid Shera, Mohammed Aiyub Kadiwal alias Mohammed Khadiyasan, Mohammed Shafi Mukhi alias Shafi Chapi, Mohammed Hasan Karadiya alias Hasan Haidarpuri, and Mohammed Aiyub Sunasara alias Mohammed Khali.

ATS has stated that these individuals are active members of JeM and were working in coordination with previously arrested operatives.

The arrests have taken place just two weeks after the ATS busted an initial module on July 3, arresting eight individuals from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. Those earlier arrests included Ahmed Abdullah Gajiwala, Ibrahim Mohammad Husen Ghagha, Mudassir Abdullah Ghaziwala, and others, many associated with madrasas in Banaskantha, Patan, and Navsari districts, and one from Madhya Pradesh’s Dewas.

The suspects reportedly made an organisation named “Darul Islam Gujarat Jaish-e-Mohammed” to recruit locals, spread extremist ideology, and maintain contact with Pakistani handlers identified as Abdullah and Mohammad Umar.

The arrested individuals, including the ones caught previously, were involved in testing explosive devices as part of larger conspiracy activities.

As pr reports, the Gujarat ATS investigation so far has revealed funding trails from abroad and suspicious vehicle procurements. Digital evidence, including jihadi literature translated into Gujarati, speeches by JeM founder Masood Azhar, and encrypted files containing recruitment material, has been recovered in related raids.

ATS DIG Sunil Joshi and other officials briefed the media, emphasising that the probe is underway to determine further links and prevent any planned terror activities in the state. All accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). They have been remanded to ATS custody for further interrogation.

“During questioning and searches conducted at the accused persons’ residences, Jaish-e-Mohammed flags, books authored by Maulana Masood Azhar, and letters written by the accused to Masood Azhar were recovered. They also recovered Rs 1.03 lakh which was part of funds received for terror financing”, Joshi informed about the former arrests.

The fresh arrests have heightened security alertness across Gujarat, particularly ahead of major events like the Rath Yatra. Authorities have urged vigilance and appealed to the public for any suspicious activity information.
