‘First they cut off electricity, then they rushed in with weapons’: Hindus attacked by Muslims from nearby village in Gujarat- Read what happened and what the victims told OpIndia

A group of people from a neighbouring village allegedly attacked members of the Hindu community in Raydhanpar village under the Madhapar police station limits in Kutch district of Gujarat, following a minor altercation. The incident occurred on the night of May 30, 2026. According to the complaint, the attackers first switched off the village electricity supply before carrying out the assault in a pre-planned manner. Several Hindu youths and police personnel were injured in the violence.

Based on the complaint filed by a local Hindu youth, Darshan Baradiya, the Madhapar police have registered an FIR against 23 named individuals and several unidentified persons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of attempt to murder.

Sequence of Events

According to the FIR and the statement given by complainant Darshan Baradiya to OpIndia, the incident began around 10:30 PM on May 30 when he and his friends were sitting in the village outskirts. A group of Muslim youths from the neighbouring Varnora village, identified as Salim, Abu Sufiyan, Sahil, Abbas, Sameer and others, arrived at the spot and allegedly started an argument. They reportedly used abusive language and issued threats, saying, “Why are you staring at us? If you look again, we will beat you up.”

The verbal spat soon turned into a physical scuffle. During this, one Razak Siddique arrived in a Bolero pickup vehicle and joined the fight against the Hindu youths. He then left with others, giving the impression that the matter had ended. However, it proved to be the beginning of a larger incident.

As villagers gathered in response to the clash, Razak returned along with Firoz Rajak Meman, Shoyeb Siddique Mokha, Aman Karim Meman, Akram Jusb Meman, Majid Ibrahim Kevra and others. They allegedly drove the Bolero at high speed towards the gathered villagers in an attempt to run them over. Though the villagers managed to move aside, the vehicle collided with a parked motorcycle. The FIR has registered this as an attempt to murder.

Escalation and Attack

After the failed attempt, the accused allegedly called for reinforcements. Soon, a large number of people arrived from Varnora village on motorcycles and other vehicles, armed with sticks, pipes, stones and other weapons. Another Bolero carrying Hanif, Umar, Rehan, Dawood, Ejaz, Aftab, Altaf and others also reached the spot.

According to the complaint, the mob first cut off the electricity supply to the entire village by tampering with the wires on an electricity pole. They then began pelting stones at the Hindu villagers gathered at the village entrance as well as at houses in the residential areas. The stone-pelting created panic, forcing many residents to take shelter inside their homes.

Several Hindu youths, including Darshan Baradiya and Rajesh Chavda, sustained injuries. Rajesh Chavda suffered a serious injury near his left eye. At least one youth was seriously injured, while three to four others received minor injuries.

Attack on Police Vehicles

When police teams from Madhapar police station and the Local Crime Branch (LCB) reached the spot, the mob also targeted their vehicles. Two to three police vehicles, including an LCB vehicle, were damaged in the stone-pelting. One police personnel was also injured.

Reaction from Hindu Organisation

National President of Hindu Yuva Sangathan, Raghuvirsingh Jadeja, described the attack as a pre-planned conspiracy driven by “jihadi mentality.” Speaking to OpIndia, he claimed it was rare for an entire Hindu village to be targeted in such a manner, with electricity and CCTV allegedly disabled before the assault.

He said that this incident was part of a pre-planned conspiracy, because the mob came prepared, with weapons. They came with chains which they put on the wires on the electricity poles to turn off the electricity of the entire village by short circuiting it. Raghuveer Singh further said that the Hindu community in other parts of the country will also have to learn from this incident. He said that in the presence of the District Police Chief, a Muslim mob pelted stones, in which a policeman was also injured.

He demanded a thorough investigation into Varnora village, which he called a “jihadi epicentre,” citing previous cases of cow slaughter and illegal beef trade from the area.  He demanded a detailed investigation into the Muslim majority village.
