‘I am not retiring’: Indian Captain Rohit Sharma clarifies after sitting out for SCG Test

Indian Captain Rohit Sharma has cleared the air around his Test future and confirmed that he is not retiring just yet. Rohit Sharma opted out for the ongoing 5th Test of the series against Australia. After struggling with the bat all series having scored only 31 runs in 5 innings, Rohit opted out of the Sydney Test. Jasprit Bumrah is leading the team in his absence.

During the Lunch Break on Day 2 of the Test, Rohit spoke in detail about the decision making behind his decision and said that he is not playing this Test only because of his poor form and has no immediate plans to retire.

“This is not a decision of retirement. I am not moving away from this game. But I took a decision to step away from this game because I was not able to score runs with the bat”, Rohit said.

India scored 185 runs in their first innings of the Sydney Test, with Australia currently 137 for 6 in response.
