ICC Champions Trophy: Opening ceremony cancelled; Indian Captain Rohit Sharma wasn’t going to travel to Pakistan for the event

The opening ceremony for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, to be held in Pakistan, has been reportedly cancelled. As reported by Pakistani media house Geo Super on Thursday, January 30, the opening ceremony has been cancelled due to the delayed arrival of the England and Australian cricket teams in Pakistan.

The 2025 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is set to be played from February 19 to March 9 across three venues in Pakistan, and one in Dubai. India will play their matches in Dubai after BCCI’s refusal to travel to Pakistan.

Notably, it was earlier made clear that Indian Captain Rohit Sharma will not travel to Pakistan for any official function ahead of the Champions Trophy. Generally, Captains of all participating teams gather for a pre-tournament photo shoot before the start of any ICC event.

It is as yet unclear whether the opening ceremony was cancelled because Indian Captain was not going to travel for the event, or whether it is only due to the delayed arrival of England and Australia in Pakistan for the event.
