Pakistan: Court finds Imran Khan guilty of corruption, sentences him to 14 years in prison

On Friday (17th January), a Pakistani court sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to 14 and 7 years in prison respectively. The duo was found guilty of corruption.

According to reports, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi accepted a parcel of land as a gift from a real-estate tycoon Malik Riaz in return for laundered money.

Following the verdict, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) held demonstrations outside the Parliament. Imran Khan has cried foul over the matter and alleged that it is a conspiracy by his political rivals.

The former Prime Minister has been languishing in prison since 2023. He was removed from power in April 2022.
