India summons top Bangladesh diplomat a day after Bangladesh summoned Indian High Commissioner

A day after Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, was summoned by Dhaka, India summoned top Bangladesh diplomat in India. The Ministry of External Affairs issued the summons.

Pranay Verma was reportedly summoned by Bangladesh because they alleged that India was trying to construct fences at five locations along the Indo-Bangla border, violating a bilateral agreement.

Tensions between India and Bangladesh have been on the rise since Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was removed from power by Islamists last year. Since then, attacks on minorities, particularly Hindus, have become a norm in Bangladesh under the government of Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus.

There have been widespread attacks against Hindus, including attacks on their temples under the watch of the Nobel Peace Prize winner. However, the Bangladesh government says attacks against Hindus are just political and are not communal.
