Bangladesh-based Islamist Sarjis Alam, who previously issued threats to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is now suing Facebook pages for criticising him.
Alam rose to prominence during the ‘student protests’ and the undemocratic ouster of Sheikh Hasina as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
He has filed cases against two Facebook pages ‘Department of Bakshal: University of Dhaka’ and ‘Criminals of DU’ for supposedly bullying and spreading disinformation.
The cases were filed under the Cyber Security Act (CSA), which the Muhammad Yunus-led interim government vowed to scrap.
“They also uploaded some fabricated screenshots on a WhatsApp number that I previously used. In some particular posts, they wrote lies about me and maligned my dignity,” he alleged.
“They also mentioned in those posts that I was sacked from the July Shaheed Smrity Foundation which is not correct. I voluntarily left the position instead,” the Islamist further claimed.
Sarjis Alam had repeatedly threatened India and demanded the handover of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Owing to his anti-Indian rhetoric, the Islamist was made the chief organiser of the Jatiyo Nagorik Committee.
