Israel: National Religious Party-Religious Zionism threatens to withdraw support from Govt after ceasefire deal with Hamas

Following the news of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas, chair of the Religious Zionist faction in the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has shared that his party is actively discussing whether to leave the governing coalition over the deal.

Ohad Tal said, “We are discussing [leaving the coalition] among ourselves. We will, of course, vote against the deal.”

Earlier, Israel and Hamas signed a historic ceasefire agreement on Wednesday, January 15, after 15 months of devastating war in Gaza following the bloodcurdling October 7 attacks.

In a statement, the party declared, “The faction stands behind the demands of the party chairman, Minister Bezalel Smotrich, to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, to ensure Israel’s return to the war to destroy Hamas and the return of all the hostages, including a change in the concept of decisive victory, immediately upon the conclusion of the first phase of the deal.”
