In a chilling incident from Karnataka, a 23-year-old woman was murdered by her husband, who is accused not only of hanging her to death over suspicions of an extramarital affair but also of recording her final moments and forcing her parents to witness the tragedy through a video call.
The victim has been identified as Bhagyashree Jigalur, while the accused is Praveen Jigalur. The incident took place on Sunday evening in Galagali village of Bagalkot district.
According to the police, Praveen allegedly assaulted Bhagyashree with a wooden log before hanging her inside their residence. Investigators said that after she was suspended by a green dupatta, he allegedly recorded a video showing her struggling for life instead of attempting to save her.
Police further alleged that Praveen made a video call to Bhagyashree’s parents while she was gasping for breath, forcing them to watch their daughter’s final moments. He is also accused of sharing the disturbing video with several friends and relatives after the incident.
The couple had reportedly been experiencing marital discord for some time. Initial investigations indicate that Bhagyashree had left her matrimonial home around two months ago following frequent disputes and had been staying with her parents. Family members told police that Praveen later persuaded her to return home, assuring her that they would rebuild their relationship and live peacefully.
However, according to investigators, Bhagyashree was allegedly killed on the very evening she returned to her husband’s house.
A video from the crime scene, now in police possession, reportedly shows Bhagyashree hanging by a green dupatta while struggling to find support on a double bed beneath her. Visible in the background are the couple’s names written on the bedroom wall during their wedding ceremony, adding a haunting reminder of their marriage.
Officers from the Bilagi Police Station reached the residence soon after receiving information about the incident and began a detailed investigation. The accused has since been arrested.
Police are now examining the sequence of events leading up to the alleged murder, including the motive behind the crime and the circumstances surrounding Bhagyashree’s return to her matrimonial home. Further investigation is underway.
