In a massive action against drug smuggling, a Keralam police team seized around 12.8kg of MDMA consignment estimated to be worth ₹10 crore. The consignment was found concealed inside door panels of an Innova car in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The police arrested three accused named Jabir Ali, Mohammed Salih and Shaim Akbar near Coimbatore in connection with the seizure.

A special investigation team led by District Police Chief Chaitra Teresa John, Manjeri Inspector T.G. Dileep and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) squad were part of the police team that made the arrests. According to police, the consignment of MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy or molly, was meant to be distributed in Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
The narcotic substance was reportedly found in sealed packages of different quantities ranging from 100g to 500g. The packets were meant to be delivered to various locations between Thiruvananthapuram and Kasaragod. The transit points used by the drug trafficking network were identified by police in Coimbatore, Palani and Kodaikanal in Tamil Nadu.
The police action arose from an investigation launched weeks ago after six were arrested with 100 g of MDMA at an apartment in Manjeri. During the investigation, the police uncovered a wider drug smuggling network active across Kerala and other states. The police said that the drug trafficking network procured and stored huge quantities of MDMA at different locations across Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru, from where they were transported to Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The network used vehicles with hidden compartments to conceal and transport the drug.
District Police Chief Chaitra Teresa John said that the network targeted young people in the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Many young people, lured by easy money, are said to be involved in the operations of the network.
The crackdown on the drug trafficking network was a result of a well-crafted operation by the Special Investigation Team, which included Perinthalmanna Dy. SP. Gopakumar, Malappuram Dy. SP. Subhash Babu, Manjeri station ASI Muhammad Ali, Taufiq Mubarak and Pradeep Kumar, apart from members of the DANSAF squad.
