Punjab honour killing: Woman’s lover beaten to death in Khanna, body dumped to fake accident

A shocking case of honor killing has come from the Malaud area of Khanna in Punjab’s Ludhiana district, where a man was beaten to death by the brother of the woman he was in a relationship with. After the murder, the accused tried to make the crime look like a road accident by leaving the body on the roadside along with an Activa scooter.

The victim was identified as Onkar Singh, 35, a resident of Ghungrana village. His body was found near a canal bridge close to Nanakpur Jagera village on 15th May. Police were informed after locals spotted the body lying near the road. Since an Activa was parked nearby, the case at first looked like a possible accident.

The investigation took a different turn

As the Maloud police station began investigating, officers found several things suspicious. The police then started checking technical evidence and gathered information through local sources. During the investigation, it came to light that Onkar Singh was in a relationship with a young woman from his village.

According to the police, Onkar was taking the woman with him towards Nanakpur Jagera village on the night between May 14 and May 15. Her brother, Gurpreet Singh, came to know about it and, along with four of his friends, chased them on the way.

Beaten to death on the road

Police said the group stopped Onkar and attacked him brutally. He died on the spot due to the assault. After killing him, the accused dumped his body near the wall of a government high school in Nanakpur Jagera village. To mislead the police, they parked an Activa near the body so that the incident would appear to be a road accident.

DSP Harmanpreet Singh Cheema confirmed that the main accused, Gurpreet Singh, has been arrested. Police teams are conducting raids to catch the other four suspects involved in the murder.

The murder has created tension and shock in the surrounding villages. Police said all the accused will be arrested soon, and further investigation into the case is underway.
