Amid social media outrage over UK grooming gangs, former Labour MP arrested for sending sex messages to child

On Saturday (11th January), the police arrested former Labour MP Ivor Caplin for sending sexually inappropriate messages to a child.

A group of paedophile hunters in the UK nabbed him through a sting operation, which was live-streamed on Facebook. The footage of his arrest has also surfaced online.

In a statement, the Sussex police said, “We are aware of footage circulating on social media showing a man in Brighton being detained on suspicion of engaging in online sexual communications with a child.”

They further added, “Officers can confirm that a local 66-year-old man was arrested on Saturday (11th January) and currently remains in custody. This is an ongoing and active investigation.”

The development comes amid ongoing social media outrage over the prevalence and inaction against grooming gangs in the United Kingdom.

Ivor Caplin was a member of the Parliament from the Hove constituency and served in the capacity of the Defence Minister.
