A Pakistani terrorist who entered Jammu and Kashmir to carry out attacks for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) told investigators that he temporarily stepped away from terror activities to fulfil a personal wish, getting a hair transplant in Srinagar.
Mohammed Usman Jatt, also known as “Chinese”, is being questioned by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) after his arrest. During interrogation, he said years of hair loss had badly affected his confidence, and he had long believed hair restoration procedures were only available in Western countries.
Hair transplant became his focus in Kashmir
Officials said Jatt, a resident of Lahore and a trained LeT operative, entered Jammu and Kashmir through the northern part of the Valley with instructions to carry out attacks. He was active in north and central Kashmir and had links with terror activities there.
However, during questioning, he told investigators that life in Kashmir was very different from what he had been taught in terror camps across the border. While staying in the upper areas of Srinagar, he came in contact with Pakistani terrorists Zargam and Abdullah alias Abu Hureira.
According to officials, Zargam introduced him to a shop owner who had undergone a hair transplant. After learning about the procedure, Jatt repeatedly visited the man and asked for help in arranging treatment. He later underwent the transplant at a clinic in Srinagar and even stayed overnight there during parts of the process.
Travel plans and escape route
After the procedure, Jatt travelled to Jammu in a passenger vehicle and then took a sleeper bus to Punjab, reaching Malerkotla. Officials said he spent time watching Turkish shows and trying to learn English.
During interrogation, he also revealed plans to obtain a genuine Aadhaar card, PAN card and eventually a passport so he could leave India, similar to Umar alias “Khargosh”, a Pakistani terrorist who escaped using forged documents and later moved to a Gulf country through Indonesia.
Officials said Jatt’s disclosures also helped police crack an Over Ground Worker (OGW) network operating in Srinagar and North Kashmir by identifying people who had provided shelter and support.
Usman was arrested last month
On 7th April, Jammu and Kashmir Police busted an interstate LeT network and arrested five people, including Abdullah alias Abu Hureira, who had been absconding for 16 years. Mohammed Usman was also arrested during the operation. Raids at 19 locations across Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and Haryana exposed a wider support network that provided shelter, logistics and financial help to terrorists.
