A cow slaughter incident has been reported in the Dhanpuri police station area of Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh, where the police arrested one of the accused red-handed during a late-night patrol. However, his accomplice managed to escape due to the darkness and the presence of bushes in the area. The incident took place on Monday night, the 2nd February, in the Kachhiyantola area.
According to the police, the incident was reported during routine night patrolling, where an informer tipped off the police about two men slaughtering a cow behind the Neelkanth Temple, in the bushes of the Barmasiya area. The police immediately called for more personnel and conducted a raid on the spot, as indicated by the informer.
As soon as the police party reached the spot, the two accused attempted to escape. While one was chased and caught on the spot, the other managed to escape in the darkness.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Ansar Ansari (40) years, a resident of Bhutahi Tola, under the limits of Budhar police station. During interrogation, he disclosed that his absconding accomplice is Ajju Ansari, a resident of Singhpur, under the limits of Singhpur police station.
A Hindu woman from Shahdol district alleged that Ajju Ansari stole her cow, slaughtered the animal and sold the meat to the biryani shops in the area. She became emotional when describing the crime, saying that she raised the cow like family.

Police officials said that a formal identification panchnama of the slaughtered cow was prepared at the scene. Several items were also seized from the possession of the accused. These include two nylon ropes, two sharp iron knives, a TVS Victor motorcycle, a Bajaj Platina motorcycle, and a Vivo Android mobile phone.
Following the incident, members of several Hindu organisations also reached the spot after receiving information about the cow slaughter. Police have registered a case against the arrested accused under Section 325 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with relevant sections of the Madhya Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act, 2004 (Section 4(9)), the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (Section 11(1)(l)), and Section 25B of the Arms Act, 1959.
