As per reports, on the day of the incident, Akbar Abdul Sheikh, Abdul Hasan Sheikh, and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh stopped at the primary school where Anwara worked, and one of them started plucking bananas from a tree inside the school premises. When Anwara objected, the men sexually assaulted and harassed her. She called Nair on the phone for help. Nair, who was raised by Anwara’s family after his parents died, drove to the scene carrying a loaded revolver. He opened fire at the three men and drove away. However, he was caught by police at Shil Phata, 4km from the crime scene, and arrested. The injured were taken to the hospital, where Akbar was declared dead.
Nair told the police that the three men had been harassing and stalking Anwara, whom he considered his sister. When they harassed her again on Thursday, he decided to deal with them. The police said that Nair has no prior criminal record. According to Senior Inspector Anil Shinde, when questioned about the firearm, Nair told the police that he found a bag containing the loaded revolver on the roadside when he was working as a truck driver in Gujarat. He said he had kept the firearm with him and used to shoot at the three men.
