Preliminary inquiry finds video genuine.
According to the administration, an initial investigation confirmed that the woman seen in the viral video is Sejal Pawar. Officials stated that some remarks made in the video were found to be prima facie incorrect and unacceptable. Based on these findings, the institute decided to take interim action while a detailed inquiry is conducted.
To investigate the matter further, the college has formed a five-member committee. The panel has been asked to submit its report within seven days, after which the institute will decide whether additional action is required.
Family meets officials
Following the controversy, Sejal Pawar was handed over to her family. Her parents later visited the institute and met with college authorities regarding the issue.
Sources said the family has been deeply distressed by the developments and is concerned about the situation. Sejal has reportedly apologised to her family after the incident came to light.
Counselling recommended
The administration has also expressed concern about the possible impact of the controversy on the students’ mental health. Officials have advised her to seek counselling so that she can cope with the intense criticism and attention on social media and avoid serious emotional stress.
Comments at the comedy show sparked the row.
The controversy began during an audience interaction segment at a stand-up comedy show hosted by comedian Pranit More. During the event, Sejal Pawar made comments about a sensitive issue related to medical education.
A video of the interaction soon spread across social media platforms, attracting widespread attention. As the clip went viral, her remarks drew strong reactions online, turning the incident into a major public controversy.
Maharashtra cyber cell registers FIR
The matter has also led to legal action. The Maharashtra Cyber Cell has registered an FIR against comedians Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Sejal Pawar, and others in connection with the viral video.
According to a press note issued by the agency, the case has been registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station under Sections 75(1)(iv), 75(3), 294, and 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Investigators say the case relates to the publication and circulation of material considered obscene and objectionable through online and social media platforms. Summons have been issued to those named in the FIR.
At present, both the internal inquiry by the medical college and the investigation by the Maharashtra Cyber Cell are underway. Further action is expected after the inquiry committee submits its report.
