Maharashtra TET exam postponed after suspected paper leak in Bhiwandi, FIR filed against 3 suspects

The Maharashtra State Examination Council has postponed the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (Maha-TET) 2026, which was scheduled for June 28, after some individuals in Bhiwandi were found in possession of questions matching the exam paper. The exam was scheduled to be conducted at   1,728 centres across 37 locations in Maharashtra, with around 6,12,500 candidates.

A notice issued by the Council today stated that, based on confidential information, Bhiwandi police conducted a raid early this morning. Upon verification by Council officials, it was confirmed that certain persons had information matching parts of the TET June 2026 question paper. A police case has been registered at Bhiwandi police station in this connection.

The official notice reads: “Taking into account the said situation, the Teacher Eligibility (TET) examination organised on 28 June 2026 is being postponed. Since it is the Council’s order to function transparently in any situation, and a thorough inquiry in this regard is considered necessary, the examination is being postponed by the Council.”

The notice further states that updated information regarding the TET examination will be published on the official website of the Maharashtra State Examination Council. Candidates will not be required to register again for the exam, and there will be no additional fee when the examination is rescheduled.

Priya Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of the Maharashtra State Examination Council, said that strict action would be taken against those found responsible for the paper leak. An FIR has been registered against three individuals so far, and the police are continuing an investigation into the matter.

The postponement comes shortly after the exam was earlier rescheduled from June 21 to June 28, 2026, to avoid overlap with NEET examination centres. The Council had earlier implemented measures suggested by the Supreme Court following irregularities reported in NEET 2026.

The Council has assured that all necessary steps will be taken to maintain transparency and fairness in the process.
