At the Melbourne Cricket Ground, young Indian batsman Nitish Kumar Reddy hit his maiden Test 100 in the ongoing 4th Test Match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Following Australia’s mammoth score of 474, Nitish Kumar Reddy walked into bat with India at 191 for 6, staring at a follow-on.
However, the young batsman unfurled a series of sparkling shots in his innings dragging India back into the match and giving them a great chance to at least draw the game and head to Sydney for the final Test on level terms. The series is currently locked at 1-1. India haven’t lost the Border Gavaskar Trophy to Australia since 2014-15.
In the company of Washington Sundar, Reddy put on 127 for the 8th wicket partnership giving India a chance to avoid defeat in Melbourne. Reddy’s father, who was in attendance at the MCG, was left in tears after his son scored one of the finest centuries seen at the historic ground.
When rain brough the play to a premature end on the 3rd day of the Test, India were 358 for 9 with Nitish Kumar Reddy batting on 105 and Mohammed Siraj giving him company at 2.
Notably, this is Reddy’s debut series.
