Indian authorities removed security cordon and queue management barriers set up outside the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi on Thursday (20th August). The illegal structures included bollards and barricades that ring-fenced the diplomatic compound. After the action by Indian authorities, visuals outside the Pakistan High Commission showed broken barricades and damaged walls.

The action comes three days after Pakistani authorities demolished security barricades and parking poles placed outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
The development comes amid the high-profile visit to Jammu and Kashmir by United States Ambassador Sergio Gor on Wednesday. Gor, a US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy to South and Central Asia, arrived in Srinagar on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Addressing a joint media briefing with Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Gor described Jammu and Kashmir as “an important part of India” and “an incredibly beautiful place”. He added that the United States plans to review its travel advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, citing steps taken by the Centre and the Union Territory administration to improve security. “The United States puts out travel warnings and every so often, we re-evaluate those travel warnings. I cannot make any big announcements here today, but it is something we are going to look at,” Gor said. He also highlighted the massive security gains made by Indian authorities.
The remarks naturally triggered a reaction from Islamabad, which summoned the senior-most American diplomat in Islamabad, US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker, to register its objections. In a statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemned Gor’s remarks. “Pakistan strongly condemned and categorically rejected the characterisation of Jammu and Kashmir as a ‘part of India’,” the statement said. Islamabad described Gor’s remarks as “irresponsible” and claimed that they were contrary to the US position on Jammu and Kashmir.
It reiterated Pakistan’s claim that Jammu and Kashmir is an “internationally recognised disputed territory” whose final status should be determined in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
