A dispute between two brothers in Madhya Pradesh’s Tikamgarh district took an ugly turn when one of demanded half of his father’s body for the last rites, leading to police intervention.
The matter pertains to an 84-year-old Dhyani Singh, who, after suffering from a prolong illness, passed on Sunday while living with his younger son, Deshraj. His elder son, Kishan, who resided outside the village, returned upon receiving news of his father’s death.
The dispute came to head on Sunday after Singh’s death in Lidhorataal village, about 45 km from the district headquarters. After the disagreement between the brothers escalated, villagers informed the police, said Arvind Singh Dangi, the in-charge of Jatara police station.
As per Deshraj, the commotion was caused by Kishan who was insisting on performing his father’s last rites while their father had wished for him to handle the cremation. Kishan, who was reportedly intoxicated, began demanding that the body be split in half so both brothers could share it.
